Welcome to my website. 

Here you can find my CV, academic articles, links to online essays, replication files, videos, coding tutorials, reading lists, and my photography. I am a PhD student in political science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. You may reach me on social media or send me an email: ricsolom [at] mit.edu. I am enamored with all things related to North Africa, Sudan, agrarian life, political economy, Arabic literature, the sociology of science, comparative history, and leftist politics.  Please understand that none of my ideas are unequivocal truth immune to revision. If Immanuel Kant was right, no one has direct, undistorted access to reality unmediated by concepts. Synthetic a priori knowledge is possible, and among the conditions for its possibility are space, time, and causality. The rest is guesswork. At the end of the day, we are all in the words of Jawdat Fakhr al-Dīn just "kicking embers in the ashes of language."

من الممكن أن تجدوا الـCV، وابحاثي الاكادمية، ووصلات إلى مقالاتي الأخبارية بالإضافة إلى البيانات والبرمجة المستخدمة في الابحاث ولائحة القراءة وفيديوهاتي وتصويري. أما أنا، فأدرس حاليا على مستوى الدكتوراه في العلوم السياسية بمعهد ماساشوستس للتكنولوجيا. وتركز أبحاثي على ما يسمى "الاقتصاد السياسي" خاصةّ بإفريقيا الشمالية والسودان والشام. فقد تتصلون بيّ عبر مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي وكذلك عبر بريدي الإلكتروني: ricsolom [at] mit.edu. لا بدّ أن تفهموا أن أفكاري في رأي أعمال طالب متواضع، وليست على صواب بشكل مطلق كأنها ما تحتاج إلى التصليح. إذا كان الفيلسوف إيمانيول كانط صحيح (وأعتبره صحيح) فلا احد يتمتع بالوصول مباشرةً إلى الحقيقة دون وساطة من مفاهيم بشرية خاطئة. بالعكس، نقدر التأكيد بوجود مفهوم الزمن والمساحة والسببية إذ تشكل الشروط اللازمة لإمكانية المعرفة. إلّا ذلك، بقية المعرفة تخمين وبس. في نهاية المطاف كلنا نخمن، كما كتب جودت فخر الدين، "نقلّب جمراً في رماد اللغة."
